Douglas Adams

The union of Doctor Who and Douglas Adams always felt perfect, and it was a shame that more did not come from it. Having today in the car listened to some of the audiobook version of Adams’ Fourth Doctor adventure The Pirate Planet, I perhaps should not have been surprised to encounter one of the greatest passages I have ever heard:

“This Doctor, the fourth, was a proud spiller of crumbs and defier of convention. Every morning, he advanced on the wardrobe as though he were seeking revenge. What did it matter what he wore, he figured.”

Words so glorious they could literally inspire a career.

I just can’t fathom how anyone who has stuck with Star Trek Discovery can be anything less than enthralled by it. The post-break run is among the best TV sci-fi I’ve ever seen. The series has so wildly surpassed my admittedly quite muted expectations, and certainly answered the questions that were being rightfully asked at the start.

I’ve done a few guide pieces for InfluencerUpdate.biz before but this is my first named piece. Will be doing a couple a month for them going into 2018. Thanks Steel.

So that’s a year of freelancing done, then. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster (with a terrifying – though fortunately short – dry spell in the summer!) but it’s definitely a lifestyle that suits me. I do like being my own boss and it’s been great working with so many different clients. I’ve still got some work to do to get to a steady level of income that I’m happy with, but I’ve got four possible projects in the pipeline for the new year that would be tremendously exciting if they come off, along with three recurring clients. I could yet return to a salaried full-time role but if I’m able to avoid A) having to put on trousers every day and B) having to commute, then that’ll be splendid.
