Over the last couple of weeks I’ve chosen to re-focus my collection a bit. Staying focused is always tough, and I’d got to the level where the spending and space requirements were spiraling a bit. So I’ve decided to focus mainly on Masterpieces from characters in Transformers: The Movie (which ultimately is the thing that’s dearest to my heart), my Optimus Prime collection and some select CHUGs mainly spanning Titans Return and Combiner Wars.
Ignoring my customer service problems with a defective bot for the moment (which is perhaps a story we’ll get to later), I can comfortably say that I think the individual Generation Toy Gravity Builder bots are loads better than Toyworld. They’re more stylized, certainly, but they’re better built and loads more fun.
Combined mode, however, is a totally different story. Constructor is just something else:
I know lots of folks who are very deeply down the third party Legends scale rabbit hole. It’s all pretty much new ground for me, however, so when Kapow offered to give me a set of DX9 Coneheads to review I honestly had no idea what to expect.
I’ve had this on order for yonks, but there was a bit of a delay with smartlulup on AliExpress. Still, for £22 posted you can’t complain. She’s not MP quality, obviously, but nor is she MP price!
Kapow have been kind enough to send me the DX9 Coneheads to review. Legends-scale is a bit of an unknown for me, but yeah, I see the appeal for sure. Have had these since last week but have been super-busy with some long overdue unpacking at home. I promise I’ll get around to the review ASAP!
I don’t know when it dawned on me. I think it was when I was bigging up Maketoys AGAIN in one of my reviews. I’m kinda desperate to award my first 5 Star review, and I found myself trying to remember what score I’d given my Maketoys figures. Then the cold truth struck me – I’ve not reviewed any of them! And in the one semi-review I did, a Spotter vs Visualizers write-up, I ruled in favour of Fanstoys!
My experience with Toyworld until now has been limited to the recent not-MP10 Primorion, which arrived in my early 2017 downtime and thus avoided review. But I’ll tell you now, I wouldn’t have been especially kind. Both modes look great, but the transformation is just horrendous, and there’s an inherent awkwardness to the bot. He would have been 3 stars, max. If he were any character other than Optimus he’d be off my shelf. So it probably goes without saying that my expectations for Spaceracer were tempered at best.
A total impulse purchase, this. And just as I was thinking of selling Masterpiece Optimus Primal and PE Leonidas. I really can’t afford to be falling down the Beast Wars rabbit hole. So whether he stays or not I can’t say for the moment but dear me, if he isn’t a lovably imposing fella. Amazingly articulated for something of this size, too.
